Job Description Summary This role is a global design engineering role where the scope of the team includes the design and development of the yaw system for GE’s next generation of offshore wind turbines.
The purpose of the job will comprise the entire design cycle for new product introduction, from conceptual design and functional specification to testing and validation of the yaw system components.
In this role, you will deliver engineering design excellence in conducting business-critical New Product Introductions to ensure world class subsystem performance of the Haliade-X platform. You will drive cost competitiveness across global suppliers and design concepts, working closely with Supply Chain, EHS, Services, Operations and other relevant stakeholders to deliver the best solution from a whole value stream perspective.
Job Description
Responsibilities include:
Full ownership and accountability for design, development, testing and certification of the yaw system.
Apply engineering rigor and ensure quality of deliverables, on time delivery, design cost, DFMEA, EHS, performance, availability, weight and general targets defined by the business related to the system.
Ensure system full integrated solution, by analyzing all mechanical and electrical/control interfaces.
Prepare and present technical reports and documentation of the highest quality for the different design tollgates in the NPI cycle in accordance with GE instructions.
Drive changes across the Engineering change management system.
Prepare accurate workload and timeline estimates based on activity scope and project stage.
Lead by example with engineering excellence and provide innovative design solutions to deliver world class quality.
Perform due diligence with regards to intellectual property to identify opportunities and risks.
Lead functionally the product definition engineers to provide all design documentation (specifications, 3D models, drawings, O&M manuals, Test plans…)
Identify and execute cost saving ideas and strategies
Support manufacturing, sourcing and field support with issue resolution and quick corrective actions for design related causes
Drive quick, complete technical root cause analysis of field failures and identify design related corrective actions to prevent recurrence
Proactive participation in process and methodology improvements based on Kaizen and Lean.
Qualifications
Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
Minimum 5 years of experience in relevant technology and/or product management.
Fluent in English (spoken and written).
Very strong engineering experience in Design/Product Development in the field of mechanical design
Proven experience in designing components like gears, gearboxes, pitch systems, bearings, brakes, linings...
Experience/knowledge in main recognized design codes, guidelines and standards like IEC, GL, ISO, OSHA and EN
Experience in experimental validation and uncertainty management.
Knowledge of different manufacturing processes used in structures.
Good communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
Technical drawing and design interpretation knowledge
Ability to work with global team members across cultural boundaries
